How you'll make a difference

As a Senior Technical Support Officer you will be responsible for the supervision of a small team providing efficient, responsive and high quality technical support to the Environment and Community Services Department, which including Strategic Planning, Safe Strong Communities, Street Care, Resourcing & Support services. 
 
This post is a limited term contract ending 31 December 2021.
 

This post is restricted to permanent and temporary employees of South Gloucestershire Council only. 

What will you be doing? 
 
  • You will be responsible for the supervision of a small team of technical support staff and will co-ordinate, allocate and supervise technical support officers within one of the technical teams.  
  • It will be your responsibility to ensure that the team meets necessary targets, both statutory and those set within the service area.
  • On a daily basis you will work with both internal and external stakeholders, members of the public, local and parish councillors, applicants, licensees, developers, businesses and other organisations.
  • You will maintain budgetary control records for the Section.  Prepare official orders, raise and process invoices working to ensure Service Managers have access to accurate financial information.
  • In this varied role you may also undertake fee calculation, collection of personal information data and participate in supporting consultations with statutory bodies, responsible authorities and third parties. 
  • Under the guidance of the Team Leader, you will proactively identify and promote opportunities for improvement in processes and procedure as a result of system development and advances.
  • You will extract statistics and management information as required to assist in the production of performance indicators, statutory returns and reports.
  • On occasion, it may be necessary to deputise for the Technical Support Team Leader.  



What we need from you

  • You will have knowledge of Technical Support Licensing work.
  • You will hold a minimum qualification of NVQ level 3 (or equivalent qualification) including English and Maths, or you will hold equivalent relevant experience in administration or business support.
  • It is essential that you are well organised and able to plan your work.
  • Communication is key in this role, so you must demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively with service users, professionals and partnership agencies using a variety of media i.e. email, phone, face to face, taking minutes etc.
  • You will demonstrate practical skills and experience in using a range of IT packages with experience in using databases, including running standard reports, analysing data and presenting findings.
