How you'll make a difference

At South Gloucestershire Council we are immensely proud of the skills, abilities and compassion of all our social workers and wider team members – demonstrated even more so during the pandemic.  As a Team Manager you will provide support, recognition, guidance and professional oversight to team members within your practice area.

This vacancy is for the Team Manager, Response (Front Door Duty & Assessment) - a newly created post and team following substantial investments across our children's services - further increasing capacity in our Front Door.

We've recently invested and expanded this service further, to react to the feedback of our social workers and how our services need to shape for the future.  You will be an integral part of this future, operating as one of 5 Response Teams.

What will you be doing?

You will have the usual targets to achieve, but you will also have a very supportive leadership team around you, that are always accessible from the very top down.  You will be a natural leader and able to get the best out of your colleagues and team members as we continue to implement further improvements across our services.

If you can focus on the people behind the Social Worker title – we know you will achieve the best for all of children and families.

  •  First and foremost, as a supportive manager you will be able to get the best from your team members whilst ensuring they are fully supported and know how valued they are.
  • Ensuring a focus on the individual and assisting in personal and professional development through the several available pathways and programmes offered by our Children’s Services.
  • These are peculiar times and there has been a shift in how we manage people, combining predominantly remote working with face-to-face management (where essential and secure) – you will be an adaptive and responsive manager to meet team and wider service objectives.

What we need from you

  • You will have relevant professional qualification and experience in a relevant setting, such as Corporate Parenting or Social Care that must include experience of management of staff, and supervision of other professionals.
  • You will be able to evidence your ability to lead teams to achieve optimum performance in delivering excellent social care services for children.
  • You will have evidence of on-going continuous professional development and a thorough knowledge of current legislation and practice relating to children and young people’s services.

How a career at South Gloucestershire Council is different

  • We invest in the careers of our people and we are recognised for the quality, breadth and depth of our training and development offer, which helps our people make the greatest long-term difference in their work.
Tim is one of our newer Team Managers and has progressed his career in South Gloucestershire is just one of our examples of this investment.

“Working at a smaller authority, you might think that there are fewer opportunities to develop and progress, but I think the opposite is true. We’re a relatively small authority and we have strong connections with services managers and heads of service.
We have strong links between teams and there are good opportunities to experience different parts of the service, which is something which I’ve definitely benefited from.”

We have invested in the technology and support to enable staff to work seamlessly from home so we can ensure we are keeping staff safe during Covid-19.  For those staff who may need to work in the office we have also ensured that our offices and hubs are Covid secure; and have measures in place such as one way systems, socially distanced work stations and hand sanitizer stations throughout our premises.

We are currently working remotely, but the usual place of work for these teams is Badminton Road, Yate, as we provide a service to our customers from the council offices.  It is expected that you will return to the usual place of work in line with governmental guidance and local council policy in the future.

Our teams at South Gloucestershire Council are making a real difference to the lives of people who live, work and learn here.

  • We're building and shaping communities which people are proud of
  • We're working with the most vulnerable in our community to help them achieve what they want in life
  • We're investing in our schools to ensure every child and young person in South Gloucestershire achieves their full potential.
We've achieved a great deal, but we need talented and dedicated people to ensure we continue to make a difference.

We’re making a difference, be part of it!
