Working in a growing economic Council region, join a team who is dedicated to maintaining the Council’s highway infrastructure, planning and implementation of highway maintenance and improvement schemes.  

As an experienced Highways Maintenance Engineer in this small team, you will have a varied workload and will offer engineering solutions for highways carriageways,footway resurfacing, drainage and small and medium scale repairs.

 

What will you be doing

  • Reporting on a day to day basis to the Principal Engineer, you will be responsible for planned highways projects with specified budgets and scheme briefs, which will include scheme design, supervision on site and settlement of final accounts with the term contractor or in-house service provider.

  • In the role you will use your sound working knowledge of highways and the relevant legislation to ensure that all works undertaken are completed to specification and programme and also within budget.
  • On a daily basis you will provide specialist advice and guidance on technical aspects of the role to colleagues and customers and will be preparing and presenting reports and technical briefing papers that support proposed asset/ service provision solutions .
  • The work involves a mix of office based administration/design and site visits coordinating with contractors and stakeholders on the highway network, including construction sites.

  • It is essential that you hold a valid driving license and be able to work outside normal office hours if necessary.

What we need from you

  • It is essential that you are educated to degree standard or equivalent with considerable relevant experience and Chartered or Incorporated Membership of an appropriate Institution.
  • We require you to demonstrate a sound working knowledge of highways and the relevant legislation, Health & Safety, Highway construction and maintenance techniques, CDM Regulations and the Traffic Management Act.
  • It is essential for this role that candidates should be a competent IT user, with experience of Autocad.
    You will have experience of co-ordinating and delivering engineering programmes and projects to meet clearly define outcomes and outputs often dealing with the need to tackle conflicting prioritise.
  • It is important that you are conscientious, customer focused, have the ability to prioritise workload, and can work with minimum supervision. 
  • It is essential that you can communicate effectively and efficiently with a wide range of individuals and groups along with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • You will hold a valid driving license and be able to work outside normal office hours if necessary.
