How you'll make a difference

As a Support Officer you will be responsible for providing efficient, responsive and high quality technical support to the Environment and Community Services Department, specifically Environmental Health and Building Control.

What will you be doing?  

• You will provide administrative support to the Environmental Health and Building Control departments, responding to service and customer requests, queries, or complaints, seeing through queries and advising those involved of actions taken. 
• In this varied role, will be working within a busy, fast paced environment and will be responsible for the logging of service requests and providing timely responses to both customers and colleagues. 
• You will also undertake the processing of other duties, such as Pest Control, Public Health Funerals, Noise complaints, queries relating to Food Registrations, dangerous structures, initial notices and building control inspection requests. 
• You will be dealing with personal, and sometimes sensitive information and will be required to input this data precisely and accurately. 
• You will work with both internal and external stakeholders, members of the public, local and parish councillors, applicants, licensees, developers, businesses, and other organisations.

What we need from you

  • You will hold a minimum qualification of NVQ level 3 (or equivalent qualification) including English and Maths, or you will hold equivalent relevant experience in administration or business support.
  • It is essential that you are well organised and able to plan your work.
  • Communication is key in this role, so you must demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively with service users, professionals and partnership agencies using a variety of media i.e. email, phone, face to face, taking minutes etc.
  • You will demonstrate practical skills and experience in using a range of IT packages with experience in using databases, including running standard reports, analysing data and presenting findings. 

We are currently working remotely but the usual place of work for the team is Badminton Road, Yate. However, you may be required to attend either the Badminton Road and/or Broad Lane offices due to training purposes and the business need to provide a service to our customers from the council offices.  It is expected that you will return to the usual place of work in line with governmental guidance and local council policy in the future.
