How you'll make a difference

You will make a difference as a Senior Finance Officer by providing a range of strategic advice and operational financial support services to Council departments. You will provide comprehensive financial advice and fulfil the statutory obligations of the organization ensuring compliance with accountancy standards and codes of practice.

This post is restricted to permanent and temporary employees of South Gloucestershire Council only.

What will you be doing?

Our Finance team play an important role in ensuring the council funds are being distributed, controlled and spent appropriately.
You will provide a technical accounting service in support of a specific areas of the Council.
You will review and resolve any issues relating to budgets, financial information and resources for your area of specialism so that agreed targets are met.
In this senior role you will provide expert advice to councilors, departments, managers) and the senior leadership team ensuring they receive clear guidance and information data that fulfils statutory requirements.
You will oversee a team giving support and guidance as well as set targets, monitor performance and review potential changes to ensure services and projects are delivered successfully.

What we need from you

You will need a recognised CCAB qualification (preferably CIPFA), or Association of Accounting Technician qualified or will have equivalent relevant professional experience.
You will need significant operational experience within a large organisation, covering the key financial processes of financial planning, budget preparation, budget monitoring and preparing final accounts.
You will need experience of supervising a small team to effectively deliver a range of quality and cost effective financial management and financial support services.
You will have excellent IT, numeracy and good analytical skills.
Ideally you would need Knowledge of CIVICA Financials
