How you'll make a difference

This is a key role within the local community, helping adults to develop their skills, knowledge and gain qualifications. You will also encourage them to play an active part in their learning and programme plan – something that can be truly life-changing.  

Please note this is a flexible variable hour post.

Travel to other areas within the local authority may be required.

What will I be doing?  

  • Regularly, you will plan, prepare, and deliver lesson plans for your relevant subject area.
  • You will ensure records are kept up to date and work is assessed appropriately.
  • Liaising with our Community Learning Development Workers, you will take part in continuing professional development activities, including training sessions and support meetings.
  • You will use a wide range of teaching methods and behaviour management strategies to maximise learning in the class. 
  • It will be key for you to provide information and guidance to learners when required, and to help signpost them to other resources.

What we need from you

  • It is essential that you have GCSEs (Grade A – C or 5 – 9) in English and Maths, or equivalent qualification.
  • You must have a recognised teaching qualification at Level 3 above, or be willing to complete this within 12 months of starting the role.
  • We require you to have relevant experience of tutoring, training, or teaching practice, including producing schemes of work and lesson plans appropriate to target learners (people aged 19+ with qualifications below Level 2).
  • You must have excellent interpersonal, communication and teamwork skills, together with proven ability to motivate, inspire and challenge learners to reach their full potential.
  • You will need to be willing to travel to other areas of South Glos (Patchway, Yate, Kingswood)
  • We are specifically looking for enthusiastic tutors who can deliver any of the following:
    • IT and digital skills courses
    • Functional Skills English or Maths (up to and including Level 2)
    • Family Learning Courses
    • Basic DIY
    • Basic Horticulture
    • Prepare for your Driving Theory Test
    • Basic Car Maintenance
    • Parenting
    • Green Skills
    • Hospitality
    • Logistics
    • Office Skills and Business Admin

Please note that due to the nature of this role it is a requirement of employment that an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check is obtained for this post.
