How you'll make a difference

You will make a difference by being the main point of contact for business organisations, traders, businesses and community groups and will lead High Street initiatives and projects on behalf of the Council as we continue to transform and support our high streets and town centres.

This post is restricted to permanent and temporary employees of South Gloucestershire Council only.

We are also offering this as an internal secondment opportunity, you should first seek your line managers permission before applying.

This is a limited term contract until 31 March 2027.

What will you be doing?

  • Working collaboratively, you will continue to develop the Council’s relationships with existing Chambers of Commerce and other High Street associations and in conjunction with other stakeholders will lead the partnership meetings.
  • In the role you will respond to High Street related enquiries and help businesses navigate and access other Council services.
  • In the role you will help support and where necessary lead the design and delivery of Hight Street events.
  • You will help design and deliver a programme of High Street projects, and other initiatives being undertaken by the Council to support our High Streets and allow them to recover.

What we need from you

  • You will hold a degree in a relevant subject, or be able to demonstrate an equivalent level of knowledge and experience.
  • It is essential you understand how project management methodologies should be applied both accurately and effectively on all projects.
  • We require you to have excellent organisation and administrative skills with the ability to priorities and organise your own workload.
  • You will have excellent communication skills and enjoy working with a wide variety of stakeholders out in the community.

How a career at South Gloucestershire Council is different

We know our team work best when they have balance in their lives and we offer genuine flexibility to help them achieve that work/life balance.

We trust our team to work in the way which allows them to make the biggest difference and we continue to invest in technology to help staff do their jobs to the best of their ability and celebrate innovation.

We invest in the careers of our people and we are recognised for the quality, breadth and depth of our training and development offer, which helps our people make the greatest long-term difference in their work.

We are currently working remotely, but the usual place of work for the team is Badminton Road, as we provide a service to our customers from the council offices.  It is expected that you will return to the usual place of work in line with governmental guidance and local council policy in the future.

Our teams at South Gloucestershire Council are making a real difference to the lives of people who live, work and learn here.

  • We're building and shaping communities which people are proud of
  • We're planning for the future; building and improving the roads, railways, schools, green spaces, and houses.
  • We’re providing essential services across our communities to ensure they are safe and well maintained.
We've achieved a great deal, but we need talented and dedicated people to ensure we continue to make a difference.

We’re making a difference, be part of it!
