How you'll make a difference

In this varied role you will ensure that our precious tree assets are protected and carefully managed both for the benefit of the general public and the vital role they have in our society and will invest and build on the great work our tree team carries out.
The role provides technical expert advice and support, around management of tree services for both Planning issues and the Management of the Council maintained tree stock. You will work with a range of internal, external customers and partners as part of a specialist team, ensuring that the Council’s statutory duties and policies are implemented and enforced and/or provide specialist technical input to Council policy making.

 

What will you be doing?
  • You will assist in the delivery of tree planting schemes (alongside the Arboricultural Officers), responding to requests from residents for tree works within the agreed Service Level Agreements.
  • On a daily basis you will provide advice to the council’s risk management and insurance team on straightforward tree related subsidence cases, analysing investigation results submitted by claimants and compiling reports for use by the council’s insurers. Under the guidance of the Arboriculture Officers, you will also co-ordinate small tree projects.
  • In the role you will secure the protection of trees through the making and confirmation of Tree Preservation Orders for non-complex cases, examine, evaluate and determine case applications for works to protected trees and notices of proposed works to trees in Conservation Areas.
  • You will make recommendations to the Development Control Committee and assisting the Arboriculture Officers in preparing reports, monitoring and reviewing the Council’s environmental planning policies and supplementary planning documents relating to trees.

 

What we need from you

  • Level 3 NVQ in arboriculture or an equivalent qualification
  • Experience and knowledge in a tree inspection or management role
  • You will have the ability to prioritise work and work to deadlines
  • We require you to have Good IT (Mircosoft office) and numeracy skills demonstrating the use of databases and other systems together with a working knowledge of GIS
  • It is essential that you have a full driving license
  • You must have good communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with both colleagues and customers
  • Within the role you will need the ability to work within a team as well as on own initiative

Desirable Criteria:

  • You may have knowledge of the planning system
  • It would be desirable to have experience of working for a Local Authority
