How you'll make a difference

You will provide a safe road crossing service for children and adults ensuring the safety and orderliness of children and pedestrians approaching or waiting at the crossing point and crossing the road.

What will you be doing?  

Day to day you’ll provide safe road crossing services for children and adults at fixed sites within the authority and related to schools by:
  • Ensuring the safety and orderliness of children and pedestrians approaching or waiting at the crossing point and crossing the road.
  • Following instructions in line with the Code of Practice and ensure children and pedestrians cross only on the appropriate phase of Pelican or other light-controlled crossings.
  • Building and maintaining good relations with pupils, parents and staff of the schools served by the patrol site and other road users.
  • You will be required to report any problems or hazards or incidents to the Road Safety Officer.
  • You will work with a range of basic equipment in order to complete tasks you will be checking stock to ensure that materials which are necessary to do the job are available and reporting any defects. 

What we need from you

  • You will have some practical skills in order to facilitate safe road crossing and be willing to undertake basic training.
  • You will be able to demonstrate the ability to learn to use tools and equipment (e.g. use of a prescribed road safety sign). 
  • You will be willing and able to follow road safety procedures ensuring the job is carried out safely. 
Please note that due to the nature of this role it is a requirement of employment that an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check is obtained for this post.

There are multiple posts available for this role across various locations of South Gloucestershire.
 
This role is 5 hours a week; 30 minutes in the morning and 30 minutes in the afternoon Monday to Friday.
Salaries pro-rata to hours worked.
