How you'll make a difference

As Trading Standards Team Leader, you will be responsible for the management and delivery of services aimed at protecting the health of our residents, businesses and communities by providing statutory trading standards services.

Managing a team of 9 staff, you will be accountable for the effective delivery of value for money and responsive services. By leading a balanced delivery of a risk-based service provision, involving both preventive and reactive actions, your work will protect consumers, businesses and the environment.

What you will be doing 

  • You will provide input to the preparation of plans and budgets for the service, taking account of external developments and priorities, ensuring work is completed to set time scales.
  • Using your experience and knowledge, you will organise the work and budgets in specialist areas, to ensure targets are achieved and that work meets the required standards.
  • It will be your responsibility to motivate and develop a team, leading complex projects with overall responsibility for technical enforcement and regulation services.
  • It will be key for you to prepare and present reports on complex issues, ensuring reports are completed on time and provide a clear summary of issues, progress and implications.

What we need from you

  • It is essential you hold a professional qualification and ideally a management qualification at NVQ level 4, or you have equivalent relevant experience of managing service delivery.
  • Given the elements of this role, you will have in depth knowledge of trading standards and service issues.
  • We require you to have financial experience, sufficient to manage budgets.
  • You will have excellent report writing skills and the ability to explain technical information to non-technical audiences.
