How you'll make a difference

Working as part of a small team you will be responsible for the delivery of landscape design for a wide range of projects, including new public open spaces, liveable neighbourhood green infrastructure enhancement schemes, new play areas, sustainable urban drainage schemes, access improvements and public open space landscape design. You will ensure the efficient and sustainable management of open spaces, either through direct or partnership delivery.

What you will be doing 

  • It will be your responsibility to provide landscape design services for the Place Improvements Team, other Council departments and external clients. This will include the preparation of documentation for landscape and construction contracts, briefs for consultancy services, project management, tendering and contract administration.
  • To achieve defined outcomes, you will plan and organise projects in accordance with agreed standards and timescales, developing practical approaches to resolve issues, plan implementation and manage delivery. 
  • You will determine the data/information required to assess and resolve problems, undertake analysis and derive conclusions to provide solution options and make recommendations. 
  • Using your knowledge and experience, you will provide specialist advice to customers on interpreting and applying policies and technical principles. In turn, ensuring that that effective customer relationships are maintained, advice is clear and accurate, and the Council is made aware of any implications and successful solutions. 

What we need from you

  • It is essential you have a relevant degree or equivalent qualification in Landscape Architecture and are a member of the Landscape Institute.  
  • We require you to have considerable post-qualification experience of designing, developing and delivering complex landscape and environmental projects, including budgetary and contract management. 
  • You will have project management skills and a proven track record in the delivery of projects within set timescales and to budget.
  • Given the nature of the role, you must be able to communicate effectively and build working relationships with stakeholders, including architects, design consultants and a wide range of community groups and organisations. 
  • You will have experience of financial reporting, maintaining records and budgets and providing reports. 
  • You must be proficient in AutoCAD and IT applications relevant to the post.

This contract is initially a Limited Term Contract for 12 months, however the post will be reviewed in 2025 with the expectation to make it permanent.
