How you'll make a difference

As a Senior Licensing Officer, you will help shape and improve the licensing service to ensure we provide a consistent and effective service across the area.

The Licensing Team is responsible for managing South Gloucestershire Council’s licensing service which covers a wide range of licensing functions throughout the local community from alcohol licenses, gambling premises and the licensing of taxi and private hire drivers and vehicles.

What will you be doing?

  • Daily, you will provide advice to a wide range of service users including council colleagues, local business, and members of the community, ensuring that strong relationships are established and maintained.
  • You will be responsible for the day-to-day management of a small team of Licensing Officers and Assistants.
  • Under the guidance of the Licensing Services Manager, you will undertake some frontline operational work.
  • Regularly, you will provide clear and consistent technical guidance to colleagues to ensure work remains at a high standard.
  • Where necessary, you will contribute towards and develop procedures and innovative solutions for any technical issues which may arise.
  • Occasionally, you will work within the local community outside of office hours.

What we need from you

  • We require you to have a relevant degree qualification (or equivalent), or be able to demonstrate a strong understanding of licensing enforcement.
  • You must have considerable experience in licensing, and you will be capable of taking the lead in areas of licensing.
  • Ideally, you will have experience of managing people or projects, although this is not essential.
