How you'll make a difference

In this varied role you will make a difference as the lead communications expert for all matters relating to the council’s waste and cleansing service, developing and delivering agreed media communications, campaign plans and service specific communication strategies. As well as delivering a frontline service, the team is responsible for a wide variety of projects both requiring ongoing communications support.

What will you be doing

  • Liaising with council departments and partner agencies you will gather information quickly to respond to media enquiries and write proactive media, external relations and internal communications content. You will also conduct ongoing analysis of communications to improve the effectiveness of future campaigns.
  • Working with senior officers you will undertake reputation management, both reactive and proactive, responding to media enquiries and undertaking copywriting of news releases and other materials. You will prepare specific social media content and respond to comments and digital content management.
  • In the role you will determine budget requirements for communication campaigns and monitor spend, procuring communication equipment, materials and resource in line with procurement guidelines.
  • As the subject expert, you will provide communication advice to project teams in the development of their plans and taking forward communication actions and supporting in the delivery of roadshows, community engagements and educational events.
  • You will establish and maintain positive, proactive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders and will support partner engagement activities as required.

What we need from you

  • It is essential that you hold a relevant professional or degree level qualification, or have proven experience in a communications, marketing or PR role delivering external communications campaigns.
  • You must have experience of providing social marketing advice and consultancy to internal colleagues and external customers, interpreting project briefs and responding with appropriate campaign proposals.
  • You must have experience in covering a range of audiences, format both print and online, and documents such as newsletters, leaflets, social media, reports, grant applications, complaint responses, web content and press releases.
  • We require you to have experience of event management including organising public engagement sessions and experience of commissioning work from suppliers and photographers, overseeing their work.
 
Although we have the opportunity of Hybrid working,  you will also be required to travel widely within the district so you must either have a current UK driving licence or access to appropriate means of travel.
