How you'll make a difference

As an experienced and skilled strategic commissioner, you will head-up our Adults Partnership and Commissioning Service.  Overseeing Commissioning Brokerage and Coproduction work, you will deliver an innovative and well embedded Commissioning Transformation Strategy, to further deliver against the Social Care Futures vision which South Gloucestershire Council aspires to.

In line with our Council Plan, we are looking for a leader with commitment to tackling inequalities. We welcome applications from experienced service managers or commissioners wanting a first strategic role at this level.

What will you be doing?

  • The primary purpose for you will be the oversight of the complete commissioning cycle that underpins the service, including the broader design context of coproduct.

  • You will oversee researching, designing, commissioning, brokering and negotiating a range of social care, housing; health services or internal social care provision in accordance with our strategic plans and outcomes in individual support plans.

  • Within our service you will look to deliver existing and new cost effective and high-quality services and support. You will lead and develop commissioning practise, based on relationship commissioning (working with our providers both formal and informal) and coproduction.

  • You will direct, develop and implement strategies for market development and commissioning and annual action plans.

  • You will work in partnership internally (in particular with our organisational safeguarding team) and externally to ensure broader multi-agency safeguarding awareness and practice with other agencies and regulators (e.g. Care Quality Commission).

What we need from you

  • It is essential that you hold a relevant degree and/or professional qualification or substantial work experience in Commissioning at an equivalent level.
  • We require you to have substantial experience gained at a senior management level in social care or public health Commissioning, or other relevant Commissioning and contracts area.
  • It is key that you can demonstrate a thorough knowledge of wider legislation and best practice in the context of social care and health.
  • You will hold relevant certificates in leadership development and/or supervisory management.
  • Be able to demonstrate your ability to think and act strategically, solve problems and make decisions, and grow and maintain effective transparent partnership working.
